Pasamak iti Piesta

A festival or commonly known as a “Fiesta” is part of the Filipino culture. Each city or province has a local fiesta. Being a very religious centered country, a fiesta is commonly about the celebration of a city or province’s patron saint or of harvest. There is a fiesta going on at any time in the Philippines. A fiesta is a special time with a banquet for kin and friends. They are always colorful and unique. Like most Asian countries; the Philippines is rich in culture and tradition.

Here in Vigan City, the Bigueños are used in celebrating the town’s festival. Because of the government's restrictions on preventing the virus during the pandemic, the practices of enjoying the holiday changed. In the new normal, many changes have been seen. The Parades, contemporary dances, marching bands, and carnivals are no longer celebrated due to the virus. The famous Kannawidan Festival has also been postponed for the previous two years owing to the probability that covid-19 cases might deteriorated. The Vigan City Festival, where people showcase their talents, culture, and traditions, has been less lively in recent years due to the pandemic. Today’s festival is no longer the same as before because there are only limited people who can watch the events that will take place.

The Vigan City Festival has changed in such a way that all events are no longer held during the outbreak. Even in this circumstance, the Ilocanos' affection for the festival will not be forgotten and will live on in the hearts of the Bigueños.

  1. Hi there! I appreciate your post about the “Vigan City Fiesta Celebration in the New Normal”, yes, it’s true that the celebration is really an amazing one, coz it will be a great event, but due to this pandemic, then it’s so sad to note that it will not push through on the said date, but our officials are planning to go on with it, coz' it is really important to be celebrated.

  2. I agree that it's sad that we cannot witness another street dance, parades, marching bands and go to carnivals and other festivities because of the pandemic. But safety and health comes first, and if we want to go out in public and celebrate the fiesta with other people again, then we should follow protocols and work together to defeat the virus!
