Child Protection

“All children have rights and those rights must be protected”

- Novak Djokovic

The National Children's Month celebration strives to defend every child and to support children's rights and welfare in the new normal. As the Coronavirus spread throughout the country, it impacted all individuals, the economy, and the country, as well as every child in the society.

Children are not the face of this pandemic. However, they risk being among its biggest victims, as children’s lives are nonetheless being changed in profound ways. COVID-19 can quickly change the context in which children live. Quarantine measures such as school closures and restrictions on movements disrupt children's routine and social support. As the virus continues to spread across the world, lockdowns and quarantine measures can expose children to a range of risks such as the risk of mental health, physiological distress, risk of disease and illness, and negative impact on the development of every child. In a direct way, the virus might result in the loss of parental care due to death, illness, or separation, putting children at a higher risk of violence, neglect, or exploitation. This pandemic is also having an impact on children's learning.  The effects and risk of this pandemic on children are increasingly rising so, we must protect them. To secure and keep children safe from the risks and threats of this pandemic, we must work with the government and other sectors to implement or strengthen the regulations in order to protect every individual. We can also utilize print, broadcast media, outdoor, social media, and other platforms as tools to educate Filipinos about children's rights, parenting, and related issues. Creating a program aimed at protecting children may also be of tremendous assistance to young people. Collaboration with other officials to ensure child-friendly health facilities and access to health care, including health guidance and special measures to support children's psychosocial well-being when undergoing treatment and quarantine, can help children cope with the effects of the pandemic.

So, as we celebrate Children’s Month with the theme “No One is Left Behind under the New Normal: Focus on Children’s Rights” it’s intended to protect children from the effects of this pandemic, to ensure their safety, and to promote and uphold children’s rights.  Children must be safeguarded at all costs because they have rights, the right to have their special needs, the right to live, to be educated, to have the finest health care, family life, and the right to be safe. They have to live healthy, away from any abuse and harm because, as they say, young people are society’s hope for a better and brighter future.

Kabataan ang pag-asa ng bayan! Sila’y ating protektahan tungo sa magandang kinabukasan!
